Falmouth Harbor Sailing School offers private lessons to children and adults of all ages. Whether you are in town for a couple days or have lived in Falmouth your entire life, we welcome the opportunity to share the joy of sailing in beautiful Vineyard Sound.
Lessons are generally offered on our two, 19 foot, Flying Scots, which comfortably sit up to 6 people, including an instructor.
Private Lessons can be scheduled on weekdays between 11:30AM and 4:00PM or on weekends by appointment.
Rates: $50.00/hr for 1 person and $25.00/hr for each additional person in the same boat with a maximum of $100.00/hr. We highly encourage two hours for each lesson.
Private Lessons are also an excellent way for students to advance skills learned in classes and can be done in optimists, 420s, or the Flying Scot.

"Teaching the Art and Science of Sailing since 1991"
FHSS is a community access sailing program open to club members and non-members alike. The school maintains its own fleet of teaching boats . . . so boat ownership is not required.
Our 2011 program runs in weekly increments from June 27 through August 19. Sailors may enroll for specific weeks, a half season or the full season. Discounts apply for full season commitments.
Program enrollment is limited. Applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis, so please register early. .
Learn to Sail
For young beginners aged 8 and up, FHSS offers this enjoyable two week introductory class designed to prepare students for Opti Sailing. Onboard instruction covers the basics of sailing, rigging, sail trim, and steering. All classes are taught in a Flying Scot.
Optimist (Opti)
The Optimist is a great introductory sailboat for children. Optis are safe, stable and simple to operate - just one sail, one line and one daggerboard. FHSS offers courses at the Beginner, Intermediate and Racing levels. Optis are suitable for children as young as 8. Many FHSS students progress to racing.
420
The 420 is a manageable, 2-person boat for sailors coming out of the Opti class. Simple and safe for younger sailors, the 420 is challenging enough for college competitors. The 420 is best suited for sailors aged 12 to 18 who weigh over 100 lbs. FHSS offers Beginner (420-1) and Intermediate (420-2) level classes. For sailors who want to learn more advanced team and fleet racing tactics there is also a 420 Racing class.
Falmouth Harbor Sailing School encourages students in the Opti and 420 Racing classes to participate in regattas throughout the summer. Racers are responsible for the transportation of themselves and their boats to/from each regatta; however whenever possible coaches from the sailing school will gladly assist in this process. To find information about regattas in our area, please check out the Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association calendar via the link below.
